Home is where the plaque is: For Calico Crafts

I made this simple shabby chic (and may I say , in rather muted colours for me) "home plaque".
I used the vasaline (petroleum jelly) technique to stop the top white coat of paint from adhering to the whole plaque and to add some extra age worn look, I used an Andy Skinner crackle stamp over the white in a sympathetic colour toned ink to the paint. the trees and house were coloured with versamagic chalk inks.

I couldnt decide what to use as a background for the photo, so I took two... one very "pretty" garden look, and one shabby and distressed paintwork look.

Supplies used from calico Crafts:

Decoart paint HERE

Versamagic chalk ink (Pixie dust, turquoise gem and sea breeze) HERE

Calico Crafts day for me...

I have a project to share over on the Calico Crafts Blog today... Alice's adventures in a hot air balloon. not sure how wise it is to have a tea-party in a hot air balloon. it was the Mad Hatters idea (of course).

Commission work.

I was asked to do "something" for my friends, family member. Its his 50th birthday and she wanted to give him something focused on family and his interest in history, travel , and cycling. She didnt put any restrictions on what I made.. just specified it was to be in "my style" .. well you cant say fairer than that eh?

So I had this sort of "card / album" thing I had bought months ago and not yet altered.
this is the finished project.

Supplies wise.. almost all the papers are from Calico Crafts (this includes the cut out quotes fro the graphic 45 papers)...  the stamps are from both, Calico Crafts AND The Artistic stamper.
the stamps from Calico Crafts I used were the  7 gypsies "lille" stamps. and all other stamps are from The artistic stamper.
anything else used was from my craft stash.

White Rabbit, baby gift set. (Artistic Stamper)

This little set, is not my usual style of crafting, but after being asked to make a FAST card by a friend who had forgotten to get one, I got the urge to use the same design on a gift box, then a little calico  gift bag and, well... I may as well do a wee tag while I was at it right?

It sort of reminds me of my very old Beatrix Potter books (even though its the White Rabbit from The Alice range.)

I used the white rabbit stamp from HERE (scroll down a bit) and the calligraphic mat 13 from HERE.(again you will have to scroll down). The wooden box can be found HERE...
That's it!  Short and simple.:)

Quick card for calico crafts...

I have said before, that when I get new stamps, the first thing I do to test them out is a quick card or tag. well last night was a card. I got  new 'Hampton Art' stamps.. hot air balloons.
You know, they actually look great simply stamped in a group of three in simple black and white... (thats when I know I like a stamp.. when it stands alone well like that....
anyhoooo... after stamping out some on plain cards (coloured in a couple to send off with some ATCs) I then decided to make a slightly more involved card (but still super easy)...

I used a piece of the new 7 gypsies papers (Antiquaries Postale)  which all have a nice postal or airmail look to them... Calico crafts have this in stock and they hope to have it listed in the shop very soon.
I also used 7 gypsies 'lille' stamps (its at this point i wish i had had a stamp that said 'par avion' but i guess technically it would have been inaccurate.. 'airmail' would have been good...  but alas, I have no such stamp, if indeed such a stamp is made.) well as I dont have such a stamp, I stamped some text and the word "adventure" on to the paper using red and blue ink..

the balloon was stamped and cut out and mounted on to the blue sky in the framed 'painting'  with 3d foam tape.  the edges of the paper is (as usual) scruffed up and distressed. and the little frame is by 'artimeo'....  everything used is from 'Calico Crafts'.

Drift...... For calico Crafts.

I have made this ocean themed, drift wood effect hanging from one of the flotsam plaques. it was much bigger than I imagined (as I Never read measurements and should really learn from that lol... ), and my original design plan for it, was not going to work out. but now I am glad it was bigger than I thought. its totally cool and meant i could add some chunky embellishments and points of interest.
I added some texture to it first, then built up layers of colour using sprays, paints and alcohol inks etc.

To decorate the plank once it was all ocean coloured and textured, I stamped the word "drift" on to some driftwood discs. I used some of the netting from the bag that the driftwood sticks come in, as well as some moss and a cute wee boat. (I rusted my boat as it looked too new so didnt look like it "belonged").

I finished it off with a few shells and an inked up starfish (all bought at the shops on the shore about 10 miles from where i live)...

The string is taken from the packaging of the drift wood discs. (free string is the best kind).

The Purple Thread Shed results.

I took a series of workshops  (4 evenings , 2 hours per evening) at "The Purple Thread Shed" in Roslin Midlothian. We mostly worked on one main piece but had time to start a smaller one too (I just need to get a frame for it.
the workshops are based on 'Nostalgic Pictures'. we took old family photos along and Ali (of the purple thread shed), scanned them so the photos were not used or damaged..

We used lots of fun and effective ageing and distressing techniques and assembled a collage of fabric. We were encouraged to thing of the person in the photo we used, and the memories we had of them.. and with these memories, we tried to choose appropriate elements to include in our collage.
My main  picture has My Aunt Mima.... Very pretty girl in her youth.

When I was a child and we went to visited her  (and uncle George), she would bring out a lovely little music box that played "The Blue Danube" and we would dance to it. I hear that tune and think of her.  so I added music paper to my collage... Some people included favourite recipes of the person in the photo.

My small project (done on the last evening of the workshop with the spare time we had left) is of my lovely mum. just a baby / toddler:  It's small so just a simple collage. I didn't add many elements to it.

I did a third piece at home a couple of weeks ago and its here on the blog, further down the page.

Pop goes the tag...

No prizes for guessing who the 3 influences are behind this tag... but in case you are not certain...
Firstly, its Roy Lichtenstein (for the pop art slant).. next, and although its not directly taken from anything, and I have not had classes from either of these folks (yet)....I was influenced heavily to use painty effects just by seeing the work of Trish Latimer and Andy Skinner. the stamps and tag are from the artistic stamper.. the paint and rusty wire is from Calico Crafts.
